1) Satscape need Oracle Java version 8 to run (version 9 is not compatible anymore with the software). This package is not available in the official repository. So we have to add a new one. Open a terminal window and type this command line :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

2) Press "Enter" to confirm the process.

3) Then type the next command line to update the available packages list :

sudo apt-et update.

4) Update is processing and generate a few lines on the terminal window...

5) After updating, type this command line to install Oracle Java version 8 :

sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

6) Accept the License Agreement by pressing "Enter" on the keyboard.

7) Press the "Tab" key to highlight "<Yes>" then press "Enter" again.

8) Java setup is in progress...

9) To define Oracle as default Java for the system, we need to install another package. To do that, enter this command then press "Enter" :

sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-set-default

10) The package is installed and the settings are automatically done.

11) Go to the "Software/Downloads" area and get the "Satscape" software according to your operating system : 32 or 64 bits.

12) Save the files to the place of your choice. In this example, the archives have been saved into a folder named "Satscape" on the desktop.

13) Right-click on the archive "Java-3D-32.tar.gz" or "Java-3D-64.tar.gz" according to your operating system with the mouse and click on "Extract here".

14) You will get a folder "Java-3D-64" or "Java-3D-32".

15) Delete the archive "Java-3D-32.tar.gz" or "Java-3D-64.tar.gz" that have just been extracted.

16) Right-click on the archive "Satscape x32.tar.gz" or "Satscape x64.tar.gz" according to your OS with the mouse and click on "Extract here".

17) You will get a folder named "Satscape".

18) Delete the archive "Satscape x32.tar.gz" or "Satscape x64.tar.gz" that have just been extracted.

16) Inside you'll find two folders : "Java-3D-32" ou "Java-3D-64" and "Satscape". Right-click inside the window and select "Open in a terminal".

17) Enter this command to copy the software to the right place :

sudo mv Satscape /usr/share.

18) Enter the administrator password and confirm with "Enter" then close the window.

19) Now the "Satscape" directory has been moved. Open the folder "Java-3D-32" or "Java-3D-64" according to your OS. Inside ther is two installation script : one in English and the other one in French. Each one will install 3D Java libraries needed to display the 3D view of satellite tracking. These libraries must be copied in the Java installation directory.

20) Right-click on the script in your language and click ont "Run in a terminal".

21) Enter the administrator password and press "Enter".

22) Press a key to continue.

26) Now we are going to create desktop shortcut for launching Satscape. Right click on the desktop and select "Create a new launcher" in the menu.

27) This is in this this window that we have to enter all the settings.

28) In the name area enter "Satscape". Then click on the icon to the left to change the shortcut icôn.

29) In the file selector, select the "usr" directory.

30) Then select the "share" directory.

31) To finish, open the "Satscape" folder.

32) Now select the file "Satscape-icon.png" then click on "Validate".

33) Next to "Command" enter the following line and click on the "Validate" button.

java -jar /usr/share/Satscape/Satscape.jar

34) An alert suggest to create a start menu entry. This can be useful if you accidentally delete the desktop shorcut and don't want to start all stages again. So click on "Yes".

35) Now click on the desktop shorcut that has been created.

36) Satscape is now running. To check the 3D rendering click on "3D View" in the main menu. You should get something like this :

Attention.png Each time you will have to update Java, you will need to repeat the steps 19 to 22 so that the 3D view can be displayed.
