SDR-Radio Installation protocol

1) Right Click on the desktop and select "Open in a terminal" in the menu.

2) Now we need to  allow the use of DTT receivers and install the program that will make the bridge between hardware and SDR-Radio. In the terminal window, type the following command and confirm with "Enter":

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/no-rtl.conf

3) Enter the root password when asked and confirm with "Enter".

4) In the editor window, add the following lines :

blacklist dvb_usb_rtl28xxu

blacklist rtl2832

blacklist rtl2830

Then click on the "Save" button and close the window.

5) Back to the terminal window, enter the following command line and validate with "Enter" :

sudo apt-get install -y rtl-sdr

6) Once the installation is over, close the terminal window.

7)  Go to the "Links" area and download the software from the autor website. Warning : there is two versions but only the 2.3 version is working for now.

8) Then download the "SDR-Radio RTL2832.tar.gz" archive via the "Downloads" menu.

9) In this example, both files have been saved on the desktop in a folder named "SDR-Radio".

10) Right click on the archive and click on "Extract here" in the menu".

11) After the extraction, you will get a new folder named "SDR-Radio RTL2832". Once extracted, you can delete the archive.

12) Now we have all the needed files to begin the installation : The software and the folder with the libraries for the RTL2832 based chipset Dongles.

13) Now run PlayonLinux and click on "Install" in the top toolbar.

14) Then click on "Install a non listed program" in the left bottom of the window.

15) Click on the "Next" button.

16) Click on "Install on a new virtual drive" then click on "Next".

17) Enter "SDR_RADIO" as name for the virtual drive then click on "Next".

18) Check "Configure Wine" and "Install some libraries".

19) Choose "32 bits windows installation" even if your OS is 64 bits.

20) In the next window, click on "Libraries".

21) Enter "gdiplus" at the left of the "Add" button then press Enter on the keyboard.

22) You should see the line "gdiplus (native,intégrated)" in the list. Click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the window to continue.

23) In the next window, scroll down the list until the line "POL_Install_gdiplus" and check the box behind it then click on "Next".

24) Now click on the "Browse" button.

25) With the file selector, reach the folder where you previously downloaded the software, select it then click on the "Open" button.

26) Now click on "Next".

27) The installation is now started...

28) Click on the "Next >" button.

29) Click on "I Agree" to continue.

30) Uncheck all the boxes then click on "Next >".

31) Click on "Next>".

32) Just click on the "Install" button without changing anything.

33) Just check the first box then click on "Install".

34) Click on "Finish".

35) Now click on the "Next >" button.

36) Then click on "Finish".

37) Back in PlayOnLinux, select "SDRConsole.exe" in the list then click on "Next".

38) Once again, click on "Next".

39) Now select "I don't want to create any other icon" in the list then click on "Next".

40) Click on "SDR Console" in the list then click on "Configure" in the toolbar.

41) In the next window, click on the "Miscellaneous" tab.

42) Below "Comand to execute before running the program", enter "rtl_tcp &" then close the window.

43) Open the folder "SDR-Radio RTL2832" that you get by following the steps 8 to 12 of this tutorial.

44) Inside this folder, there is 3 files that we have to copy to the SDR-Radio installation directory. Leave this window opened and go to next step.

45) With the file selector, open the "PlayOnLinux's virtual drives" from your home directory in a new window.

46) Now open the "SDR_RADIO" folder.

47) Ten open the "drive_c" folder.

48) Now open the "Program Files" folder.

49) To finish, open the "SDR-RADIO-PRO.com" directory.

50) Now you just have to copy the 3 files from a window to the other.

51) On the desktop, click on the "SDR Console" icon to launch the software.

52) The program is started...

53) In the next window, click on "Yes" to add our SDR Dongle to the list of the available radios.

54) Now click on the "Search" button.

55) Select "RTL SDR (TCP)" in the list.

56) In the next window cick on the "Add" button.

57) Now click on the tuner button according to your SDR Dongle chipset. In this exemple, this is the R820T model.

58) The gain field is now automatically filled. Click on the "OK" button to continue.

59) Now click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the window.

60) Confirm the list updating by clicking on "Yes".

61) Nowthe "Radio Definitions" definition contains a new line. Click on "OK" to continue.

62) The Dongle is now in the list.

63) Click on the Dongle line with the mouse then click on the "Start" button.
